New Orleans Pelicans news: Lonzo Ball seems to have taken a shot at the Los Angeles Lakers in one of his newest songs released on Spotify.
In the 21-year-old guard’s mixtape called 50&30, the first track was titled ‘Last Days,’ in which there was a part of the lyrics in which he said ‘LA is going to regret their decision.’ Although Ball didn’t say the specific decision that LA will regret, fans were quick to assume that it was about the blockbuster trade which took place a couple of months ago.
The Lakers traded Ball, along with Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, to the Pelicans in exchange for All-Star forward Anthony Davis. LA already attempted to get this deal done before the trade deadline last season, but New Orleans refused to cooperate.
That speaks volumes about the Lakers already losing hope on their young core. The Purple and Gold wanted to compete for a championship as soon as possible in order to maximize LeBron James’ stay with the franchise, and after a couple of years trying to develop their lottery picks, LA decided that it was just time to move on.
Ball had career averages of 10.0 points, 6.4 assists, and 6.2 rebounds. However, he has been riddled with injuries during his first two years in the league. He has also been a horrendous shooter, especially from behind the arc, where he only shot 32.9 percent.
The Lakers once viewed Lonzo as someone who can rejuvenate ‘ShowTime’ in Los Angeles. He received a lot of comparisons to Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and Jason Kidd, and he was supposed to be the team’s point guard of the future.
However, Lonzo’s injuries and inconsistency has really forced the Lakers to move on from him. There is no doubt that he still has the potential to become an All-Star, but he will need to exert a lot of effort if he wants to take his game to the next level.
The Pelicans will be focused on developing Ball, as well as the other young players on the squad. New Orleans believes that it is in a great position to compete for a championship over the next few years, and they’re hoping that Zo will play a huge part in making that happen.
